Serge, a veteran photographer at the studio covered this wedding last fall. Among other claims to fame he is Francophone and was once the PM's staff photojournalist.

Photo restoration can be a rewarding process. Whether it involves saving a treasured memory or helping out a bride whose photographer doesn`t want to create an album, we really enjoy the challenge. You know, the first thing most people grab when their house is on fire is their photo album...not their computer. Long live prints!!!

We decided to get a little arty with our newest magazine ad. We create them all in house and frankly, I enjoy it quite a lot. For those who have emailed to ask...yes, we create all our own website and ad work . You can pay for a cookie cutter site from a range of suppliers
but we like to be innovators in both our work and our ads. In today's world you need both artistic
style and technical know how to succeed in business...especially photography.

A new print for our window.

We finally had a few minutes to make a new print for our studio window on Gladstone. Isn't it always the way...you plan to get those prints made, but life gets in the way...even for us. Makes me wonder about all those couples who purchase hi res files to make their own albums. A friend who owns the biggest lab in the city tells me its actually rare that couples make a real album with prints. Kinda sad and ironic at the same time. All that money spent on a wedding and 25 years from now their kids will wonder what people did with those round plastic things with a hole in the middle...
Oh well, this family had a beautiful print on their wall a few weeks after the session...its what we do after all.

Family portraits in the home

This was a challenging assignment. The shoot was done for the current issue of Ottawa Life magazine and it featured a local family with two disabled children.

I purposely chose to not put the kids in their apparatus and instead play with it as a design element and feature the bond between the parents and the kids utilizing their technology as a secondary element in the compositions. The top shot was chosen as the cover of the mag...guess I succeeded.

We always get our man.

seems to escape some people....dunno why.

Why my studio is in Ottawa.

We travel all over the continent. From resorts in Jamaica to hi tech in Minneapolis to Executive Portraits in Toronto...we have done it all. A lot of people wonder why I established my studio in Ottawa.
It's simple. My family were pioneers in the region and have been in one sort of business or another in Canada for over 350 years...yes, that's correct... 350 years. As well, Ottawa is a great place to raise a family and the citizens are really nice folks.
Couvrette Studio has been graced with photographing Ottawa's high society and yes, lots of everyday people who trust us to capture their family milestones. The portraits above were taken a decade apart and were featured on last years Christmas card for an Ottawa family. Being trusted to record the lives of Ottawans is really special.

Ok, so its mid May and that fake spring we had last month has lulled us into thinking the warm weather was upon us. Then, last weekend we actually had snowflakes and even big snow in the mountains north of Ottawa. Oh well...this has to be our last winter wedding shot of 2010....promise.
